DASH Code of Conduct


As a responsible coach, official, team manager, volunteer or administrator you must.

Respect the rights, dignity and worth of every athlete and treat everyone equally regardless of background or ability.

Place the welfare and safety of the athlete above the development of performance. Undue influence should not be exerted on an athlete to gain personal benefit or reward.

Be responsible for the safety of the athletes in your care. Equipment and conditions within the working environment should be checked in accordance with usage and guidelines.

Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and level of experience of those taking part.

Never select athletes to compete in events they have not specifically trained for.

Co-operate fully with other colleagues in the best interest of the athlete/s.

Develop appropriate working relationships with athletes based on mutual trust and respect.

Encourage athletes to value their performances and not results.

Promote a spirit of fair play and good sportsmanship.

Encourage and guide athletes to accept responsibility for their own performance and behaviour.

Promote the positive aspects of athletics and do not condone bad sportsmanship, rule violations or substance abuse.

Display consistently high standards of reliability, appearance and behaviour.

Follow all guidelines laid down by the national governing body and club.

Be aware of current child protection issues. The club recommends that all coaches attend a child protection workshop.
